THE STORY SO FAR.. Jodie-Joy is a power pop singer, songwriter and entertainer with a powerful soprano voice and impressive vocal range. Her passion for music has taken her all over the world and allowed her to develop an impressive musical repertoire spanning genres as diverse as vintage pop/soul, dance and classical music. IN THE BEGINNING (BACKGROUND) As the daughter and grand-daughter of internationally acclaimed operatic tenors it is probably not surprising to hear that Jodie-Joy started singing almost as soon as she could talk! She commenced her formal training in music and classical vocals under her grandfather Donald Sydney Smith O.B.E at Queensland Conservatorium of Music. Since then Jodie-Joy has continued to study contemporary vocal techniques with recognized teachers including Timothy Collins (Sydney McDonald College) and Lee McCrae, training in the ‘Seth Rigs’ style of singing. Jodie-Joy’s flawless stage presence and physical performance skill can be attributed to extensive training in both contemporary and traditional dance styles, as well as masterclasses that have allowed her to hone her acting and musical theatre abilities. MY BIG BREAK (SINGER/SONGWRITER) Jodie-Joy kick-started her career as an entertainer at major Gold Coast attraction Movie World, where she performed as a host of characters including iconic superstars Marilyn Monroe and Madonna. At just 19 she was chosen to be understudy to the lead role in the QPAC production of the Merry Widow Operetta, and also began writing her own original music with multi-platinum seling artist, Daniel Jones (Savage Garden) But her big break came when she burst onto television screens around Australia as a contestant in Channel 10’s “Pop Stars” series. After making it through to the final ten, she was voted most popular contestant by the public and selected to be part of girl group, Bardot. The exposure lead to Jodie-Joy being offered regular guest artist spots on Channel 10’s Good News Week, where she had the opportunity to sing with the 'Sandman', collaborate with show host Paul McDermott, and artists such as Rockmelons, Paul Mac (Eleven/Emi) and Phil Burton of Human Nature (Sony). The highlight of this experience was performing as the opening act for the 2000 Logie Awards as part of newly formed girl group the “Pop Tarts”, under the guidance of Midnight Oil’s manager, Garry Morris. MAKING MUSIC (RECORDING ARTIST) Fresh from her national television debut it wasn’t long before Jodie-Joy caught the attention of EMI and Decca Classics, London but it was producer Hayden Bell, who was quick to sign and develop her talent. Her debut album “I Still Believe” was released by Columbia Records in Japan, and opened the door to further performance and songwriting opportunities both at home and abroad. She went on to sign with Suprime Records (Cascada), exclusively for the UK dance market but unfortunately both deals where short lived due to record company constraints. Since then Jodie-Joy has worked with the cream of Australia’s songwriters and international producers including Thomas Who (Shannon Noll), Audius (Delta Goodrem) She has continued to forge her own path as a recording artist, and released her recond album "Past & Present' independantly in 2012. This album was a direct reponse to her fans pleas for a live recorded version of the classic covers she performed as part of her successful one-woman cabaret show, and also featured her latest original music. MAKING A SPLASH (SHOW PRODUCER) Finally back home Jodie-Joy threw herself into producing and performing in her own lavish stage shows, which have toured Australia and South East Asia. She has also produced major events and festivals with attendances in excess of 15,000 people, including highlights such as: Cairns Reef Casino Show “Illusion Odyssey” – directed and produced 6 month season “Auswrite” International Songwriting Festival – event assistant & performer “Vegas Nights” Indonesian Tour – producer and lead performer Gold Coast Earth Hour Event – event producer Through her entertainment company Multiplay Entertainment, Jodie-Joy has also conquered the corporate entertainment market and is in demand as a solo entertainer and with her covers band “Cocktail Express” and original/covers band Showtrain, featuring her love for Vintage soul music. Feature performances include: NYE Festival – GCC Council (15,000 people) - singer & producer Channel 9 'Nrl Grand Final Lunch' – lead singer/dancer, opening act Salt Village “Opera In The Park” – lead soprano/producer (3000+ People) Ongoing residencies at 5 star hotels, restaurants and annual festival
